NAFDAC Issues Green Light For Smokers’ Lung-Cleansing Tea After Safety ReviewThe National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has denied claims that it approved a “lung-cleansing herbal tea” for smokers, stating that the product was not registered.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a statement issued on Saturday, NAFDAC’s Director-General, Mojisola Adeyeye, clarified that the product known as Lungitox (Smokers Pride) was rejected after its registration application was submitted. The agency explained that the product’s application was denied due to the false and dangerous claim that smoking could be made “healthy” by consuming the tea.
NAFDAC emphasized its commitment to ensuring public safety by approving only scientifically validated and safe products. The agency strongly condemned any efforts to mislead the public with misleading health claims.
The statement read: “NAFDAC has been alerted to a misleading video circulating on social media, falsely claiming that NAFDAC approved a herbal product suggesting that ‘smoking is healthy’ when used with this product. NAFDAC wishes to make it clear that this claim is entirely false. The product—Lung Detox Tea, Lungitox, or Smokers Pride—has not been registered by NAFDAC. The individual behind this product had applied for registration, but the application was rejected because of the unfounded and harmful claim that smoking could be made ‘healthy’ by using the product.”
NAFDAC reaffirmed its resolve to safeguard public health and protect consumers from deceptive practices. The agency urged the public to disregard the video and report any suspicious health claims or products through its official channels.
For further inquiries or to report concerns, NAFDAC can be contacted at 0800-162-3322, via email at sf.alert@nafdac.gov.ng, or through its website at www.nafdac.gov.ng. NAFDAC promised to take strict action against anyone violating public health regulations.
