Dr. Popoola, a medical professional at the National Eye Care Centre in Kaduna and a mother of five, was abducted along with her husband and visiting nephew on December 27, 2023, when bandits attacked the hospital’s staff quarters. Her husband was later released due to health concerns after the abductors’ demands were met.

During a press conference at ABUTH, NARD President Dr. Suleiman Isah Adah and Secretary Dr. Jimoh Aminat stated that if Dr. Popoola is not released by August 26, they will initiate industrial action. The association urged the government, security agencies, and relevant authorities to intensify their efforts to secure Dr. Popoola’s release, warning that failure to do so would lead to a strike.
