According to Naija News, this decision was a direct response to employees disregarding official work hours.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with what he described as a lax attitude towards duty, the Speaker underscored that his leadership would not tolerate any form of indiscipline within the assembly.
Speaking to reporters after reviewing staff attendance and punctuality, Jatau emphasized the importance of timeliness and responsibility, making it clear that these values are non-negotiable in ensuring the smooth functioning of the assembly.
Arriving at his office by 8:30 a.m., the Speaker was visibly disappointed by the number of staff members who had not yet reported for work, warning that such behavior could not be allowed to undermine the assembly’s operations.
While commending Governor Abdullahi Sule for his efforts to improve workers’ welfare, Jatau reaffirmed that staff well-being would remain a priority under his leadership. However, he stressed that discipline and punctuality were essential expectations.
“His Excellency is doing a commendable job in improving the welfare of workers, and the assembly under my leadership will continue to prioritize the well-being of our staff,” Jatau said. “But I will not tolerate indiscipline.”
He added that he had instructed the Staff Officer to take disciplinary action against any employee failing to meet punctuality and performance standards, reinforcing his commitment to balancing staff welfare with accountability.
