These women, hailing from all 13 local government areas of the state, convened for a prayer rally on Sunday in a show of support for Dr. David Ombugadu, the PDP’s governorship candidate in Nasarawa State.
It’s worth noting that Dr. Ombugadu had contested the outcome of the March 18 governorship election, challenging the victory of Governor Abdullahi Sule, who ran under the All Progressives Congress (APC) banner.
During the prayer rally, the women dressed in somber black attire and held placards, singing heartfelt songs in the Hausa language. Their songs conveyed their weariness with the current APC-led government in the state.
At the PDP secretariat in Lafia, Hanatu John, a leader of the Nasarawa Coalition for Justice, provided insight into the purpose of the prayer rally. She explained that the gathering aimed to invoke divine favor for Dr. Ombugadu as they awaited the tribunal’s judgment.
John emphasized that even members of the APC in the state were cognizant of the fact that Dr. Ombugadu had emerged as the rightful winner of the March 18, 2023 election, disputing the results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Highlighting the unity of purpose among the women, John revealed that over 1,000 women had voluntarily converged from various parts of the state to participate in the prayer rally.
Their presence symbolized their collective fatigue with the APC-led government, and they expressed a desire not to be misled any further, demonstrating their unwavering solidarity with the PDP.
