National Grid Failure: Labour Union Reveals Sh*cking Cause Of Blackouts

The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has accused the Federal Government of deliberately sabotaging the power sector while forcing Nigerians to keep paying outrageous tariffs for electricity they don’t get.

The allegation followed Wednesday’s nationwide blackout caused by the total collapse of the national grid.

In a statement signed by its President, Joe Ajaero, the NLC said the sector is crippled because it has been handed over to political cronies, unqualified appointees, and profiteers who view national infrastructure as an avenue for personal gain rather than a tool for development.

According to the union, the persistent grid failures are not accidental but the result of a failed neoliberal experiment and a lack of political will.

It argued that the appointments in the sector—such as installing a former local government chairman with no background in energy economics or engineering as Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC)—show that governance of the sector is based on political patronage rather than competence.

The Congress condemned reports that government plans to pump N4 trillion into the hands of failed operators, insisting the money would only indemnify failure rather than fix the crisis.

“The power sector is being run by a cabal of political lackeys and economic profiteers. This is why Nigerians are left in darkness while being exploited. Instead of bailing out private operators, government should channel such funds into building a new, people-owned and democratically managed power system,” the statement said.

The NLC stressed that the collapse of the grid is not a technical problem but the product of predatory governance and economic policies designed to benefit a few at the expense of national progress.
