National Labour Congress (NLC) Terminates Abure-Led Labour Party Leadership....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The recent national convention held in Nnewi, Anambra State, purportedly reinstated Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party, along with his National Working Committee. However, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has invalidated this outcome.

In a communiqué released after the NLC Political Commission Stakeholders meeting in Abuja, the Congress expressed a vote of no confidence in the convention and the leadership it produced. Signed by notable figures including Prof. Theophilus Ndubuaku, Mr Abdulwahed Omar, and Mr S.O.Z. Ejiofor, the communiqué outlined decisive actions.

The NLC endorsed the formation of a Transition Committee, led by the NLC Political Commission, to oversee the party’s affairs temporarily. It was mandated to manage the party until an all-inclusive national convention is held. The transition committee is also tasked with reclaiming party assets and addressing cases of fraud and malpractice.

Furthermore, the stakeholders directed the transition committee to organize an all-encompassing national convention within three months. This process will involve revalidating current members, registering new ones, and ensuring inclusivity in the party’s leadership.

The stakeholders emphasized that the Labour Party is open to all Nigerians regardless of background, and they notified relevant authorities, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), of these developments. INEC and other relevant bodies were urged to recognize the Transition Committee as the interim leadership of the Labour Party.
