Nation’s Finest Gather: Tinubu, Obasanjo, Buhari, And More Pay Final Respects To Pa Ayo Adebanjo

A multitude of dignitaries and notable figures gathered on Saturday in Ogun State to pay their final respects to the late Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

According to Naija News, the funeral service for the revered elder statesman, who passed away in Lagos on February 14, 2025, at the age of 96, was held at St. Phillip Anglican Church in Isanya Ogbo, Odogbolu Local Government Area.

Among the high-profile attendees were former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde.

Also present were former Ogun State Governors Gbenga Daniel and Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Central Bank of Nigeria Governor Yemi Cardoso, and former Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Senator Adegbenga Kaka, among others.

In his tribute, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun described Pa Adebanjo as a relentless advocate of true federalism and a staunch promoter of national unity, justice, and democratic governance.

He noted, “Chief Adebanjo was a fearless champion of true federalism, consistently highlighting how Nigeria’s overly centralized system fuels economic disparities and ethnic friction.

“Under his stewardship, Afenifere evolved into a formidable voice for democratic values, regional integration, restructuring, and the devolution of power.

“Beyond the political realm, he was deeply committed to preserving Yoruba heritage and stood firmly against nepotism, corruption, and impunity. He was, in every sense, a moral compass.

“As Nigeria continues its democratic journey, the legacy of Chief Ayo Adebanjo offers a lasting blueprint—rooted in courage, principle, and unwavering integrity.

“His ideals will endure in the hearts of millions, and his impact will guide the nation toward a truly united and federal Nigeria,” Abiodun concluded.
