Nationwide Fuel Crisis Imminent As NNPCL Portal Shutdown Halts Petrol Supply, Millions Of Liters Stuck Written By Oshiobugie John- Fuel scarcity may be on the horizon as the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has temporarily shut down its portal for Premium Motor Spirit (petrol) purchases, leaving petroleum marketers unable to apply for the commodity. The Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) raised the alarm through its spokesperson, Chinedu Ukadike, on Wednesday, highlighting the growing concerns over delayed supplies.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Ukadike, more than 2,000 pending tickets for purchasing 45,000 liters of petrol are awaiting approval. He explained that the backlog could significantly impact fuel availability nationwide, as the cumulative volume represents millions of liters of petrol that cannot be accessed by marketers. The cost of a single 45,000-liter truckload of petrol is approximately N39.5 million, meaning the total outstanding value exceeds N79 billion.

NNPCL spokesperson, Olufemi Soneye, acknowledged the backlog and explained that the portal closure was meant to prevent the company from holding marketers’ funds for an extended period. While Soneye assured that the portal would be reopened once the backlog is reduced, no specific timeline was provided. This development comes as Nigerians already grapple with high petrol prices, which currently range between N950 and N1,100 per liter.
