NAUS Issues Ultimatum Over Telecom Tariff Hike, Threatens Nationwide Student Mobilization

During a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, the student body strongly opposed the hike, emphasizing its detrimental impact on students’ access to essential educational resources.

In a statement signed by Tiamiyu Olayinka, NAUS National Vice President (South-West), the students stressed that affordable internet access is vital for learning in the digital age.

“Students rely on affordable internet access to attend virtual lectures, conduct research, submit assignments, and engage in online discussions. This tariff hike threatens to disrupt these crucial academic activities,” Olayinka explained.

He urged authorities to act quickly and responsibly to resolve the issue, stressing its importance for students’ academic success.

“We urge the relevant authorities to act swiftly and responsibly to address this matter, which is vital for our academic growth,” the statement read.

In addition to the telecom tariff hike, the student body highlighted other critical concerns, such as rising insecurity on campuses, frequent power outages, and the persistent strikes that hinder academic progress.

Olayinka warned that if the government and other stakeholders fail to take action on these pressing issues, students would have no choice but to mobilize across the South-West to protect their rights and improve the academic environment.

“If our demands are not met, we will be left with no choice but to mobilize students across the South-West and take decisive steps to safeguard our rights and secure a better academic environment for all,” he concluded.
