NBA President Addresses Controversy Surrounding Open University Law Graduate

Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) President, Yakubu Maikyau, has addressed the controversy surrounding Vera Anyim’s testimony claiming graduation from the National Open University with a B.Sc in Law. Anyim had testified at the Dunamis Church in Abuja, proclaiming herself as the sole graduate in her family, prompting Pastor Enenche to question the authenticity of her claim.

Enenche’s skepticism led to accusations of falsehood, triggering widespread debate across Nigeria. Enenche later apologized, attributing his reaction to the church’s standards against mediocrity and dishonesty.

During a press conference, Maikyau criticized Anyim for asserting a non-existent academic title. He emphasized that no Nigerian university offers a B.Sc in Law. Maikyau referenced the incident, noting Enenche’s astuteness in cross-examination, highlighting discrepancies in Anyim’s testimony.

Maikyau stressed that the legal profession doesn’t recognize a B.Sc in Law, asserting that Anyim’s claim was deceitful. He underscored the inappropriate portrayal of legal qualifications and urged against legitimizing false assertions regarding legal education.
