Officials Experiment With E-Gates In Airports To Enhance Passenger Experience

The Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport in Abuja underwent a trial of its newly installed electronic gates (e-gates) on Friday, April 19, spearheaded by Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.

Accompanied by key officials including Dr. Aishetu Ndayako, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, and Kemi Nanna Nandap, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Dr. Tunji-Ojo emphasized that the installation is now 99 percent complete. He announced that the e-gates would commence operational use by the following week.

These e-gates, slated for deployment in airports across Lagos, Enugu, Kano, and Port-Harcourt, are anticipated to revolutionize airport operations. By eliminating human interfaces and reducing bureaucratic hurdles, they aim to streamline passenger movements in and out of the country.

Dr. Tunji-Ojo highlighted the significance of the infrastructure in bolstering Nigeria’s security at airports. He emphasized that the comprehensive system ensures that undesired individuals or those of interest cannot enter the country undetected, underscoring the commitment to President’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He commended the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders including the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) and the Nigeria Customs Service, acknowledging the pivotal role played by Minister of Aviation, Hon. Festus Keyamo (SAN), and other stakeholders in facilitating this transformation.
