NCC Clarifies Position, Withdraws Statement On Starlink
NCC Clarifies Position, Withdraws Statement On StarlinkThe Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has retracted its earlier statement against Starlink, which threatened sanctions over an unauthorized increase in subscription fees. Initially issued on Tuesday, the NCC announced enforcement measures against Starlink due to its decision to raise prices without prior approval.
However, the commission later clarified that the initial statement was issued prematurely and contained errors.
Reuben Muoka, the Director of Public Affairs at the NCC, apologized for the confusion and inconvenience caused by the first announcement. He stated, “We request that all media platforms withdraw the previously issued statement regarding Starlink’s price hike, as it was published in error. For those who have already shared the statement, we kindly ask for its removal from your platforms.”
Muoka reaffirmed the NCC’s commitment to maintaining regulatory stability and creating an environment conducive to investment in the telecommunications sector, as stakeholders continue to call for a review of tariffs to encourage further investment. He thanked the public for their cooperation and apologized for any misunderstandings resulting from the earlier release.
