NDC Shifts Peter Obi’s Campaign Council Inauguration To October 26, Gives Reason

The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has rescheduled the unveiling and inauguration of its 2027 Presidential Campaign Council from October 20 to October 26, 2026, citing an important overseas engagement involving its presidential candidate, Peter Obi.

According to Bush Radio Academy, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, announced the change in a statement issued on Monday, explaining that the new date was necessary because of Obi’s demanding schedule.

The statement noted that the event, initially scheduled for Tuesday, October 20, would now take place on Monday, October 26.

“The NDC Leadership has announced a new date for the unveiling and inauguration of its National Campaign Council (NCC), earlier slated for Tuesday, 20th October, 2026.

“The event will now be held on Monday, 26th October, 2026.

“The shift is occasioned by the very tight schedule of our Presidential Candidate, His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi, who has a very important engagement overseas,” the statement read.

The party apologised for any inconvenience the change might cause members, supporters and other stakeholders. It also urged them to remain committed to its campaign and work towards electoral victories for Obi and other NDC candidates in the forthcoming elections.

The statement concluded with the party’s slogan, “A New Nigeria is POssible!”

The latest postponement follows an earlier explanation by the party’s National Chairman, Senator Moses Cleopas, who addressed the delay in constituting the campaign council during a press conference on October 10.

Cleopas said the party leadership was consulting Obi and its vice-presidential candidate, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, over key appointments to ensure that the council was properly constituted.

He also disclosed that the party had completed work on the council’s organisational structure and initially planned to inaugurate it on October 20.

According to the chairman, the event was also expected to feature the presentation of certificates of return to the party’s candidates and a dinner intended to strengthen unity among them ahead of the elections.

Cleopas cautioned against rushing the selection of campaign officials, arguing that the party needed committed individuals who would remain loyal throughout the campaign period.

“It is not today you are going to have one DG of your campaign, and in the middle of the campaign you will hear that your DG is one leg in NDC, one leg somewhere else. It will jeopardise the whole hope of this country,” he said.

The inauguration is expected to mark another step in the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections, as the party works to organise its campaign structure and coordinate activities ahead of the polls.
