This statement was made on Thursday in Asaba during his delegation’s visit to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at Government House, Asaba.

Marwa highlighted the escalation of the hard drug problem in Nigeria, citing a United Nations survey indicating over 15 million drug users aged between 15 and 64 years. He urged for the support and collaboration of the state government in combating this problem.

Linking the widespread issues of kidnapping, terrorism, banditry, insurgency, rape, murder, and other crimes across the nation to hard drug abuse by perpetrators, Marwa expressed concerns.

He mentioned that Delta State has an 18 percent rate of drug abuse among individuals aged 15 to 64, involving over half a million of the population.

Marwa revealed that within two years, the agency destroyed approximately 1,000 hectares of land used for growing illicit drugs, confiscated more than 6,000 tonnes of narcotics, and apprehended over 36,000 suspects. Furthermore, more than 6,000 of them were convicted and imprisoned.
