He accused economic managers of attempting to tarnish President Tinubu’s image by proposing tax hikes. In a statement, he said, “Allow Nigerians to have enough resources before asking for more.”
“I’m not against paying taxes, but we shouldn’t impose additional burdens on those struggling to survive. With a minimum wage of N70,000, the recent rise in fuel prices to N1,000 means that the arithmetic doesn’t add up. It’s as if you’re giving with one hand and taking with the other.”
Ndume emphasized that the tax authorities should target those who can afford to pay taxes. He noted, “In Abuja, there are numerous properties that aren’t taxed. Fortunately, Nyesom Wike is taking steps to address this issue. Many people aren’t paying property taxes, and banks, which are making substantial profits, are also avoiding taxes while still collecting them on transactions.
