Reflecting on his first year in office, Fubara reaffirmed his commitment to delivering impactful social services and development projects for the people of Rivers State. The event attracted a large audience, including prominent clergy, worship leaders, and gospel musicians, who joined in expressing gratitude for what Fubara described as “divine intervention” against the attempted disruption of his administration on October 30, 2023.
Acknowledging the unwavering support of Rivers State residents, Fubara noted that their solidarity was crucial to his success. He said, “If you weren’t with us, we wouldn’t be here today. Many may not understand what happened on October 30; it was an attack on the people of Rivers State and me personally. But by the grace of God, they failed.”
Fubara criticized his detractors, insisting that despite their efforts, his administration has demonstrated transparency and accountability in managing state finances. He highlighted that Rivers State was recognized by BudgIT as the top performer in the 2024 Fiscal Performance Ranking among Nigeria’s 36 states.
He stated, “They said we wouldn’t last a week, yet here we are, over a year later. Despite their claims that we wouldn’t succeed, we have launched projects benefiting the people.”
The governor emphasized his administration’s commitment to accountability, stating, “We are not here to steal your money; we are here to be responsible. BudgIT confirmed our transparency and accountability.”
Fubara encouraged Rivers residents to remain strong and united, assuring them that his administration would continue to focus on their well-being. He expressed gratitude to God for their journey thus far and reiterated his dedication to defending the interests of Rivers State.
Addressing the legal challenges faced, Fubara explained that he had withdrawn lawsuits as part of the Presidential Peace Accord, but others did not honor the agreement. He criticized those who sought to manipulate the situation for their gain.
“The problem isn’t with me; it’s those who refuse to honor agreements,” he stated, asserting that true leadership is based on integrity.
Concluding his remarks, Fubara reassured Rivers residents that his administration would leave a lasting legacy focused on the common good, rather than personal interests. He called on all true Rivers people to embrace the prevailing peace in the state, promising to implement initiatives that would stand the test of time.
