JAMB Spokesman Fabian Benjamin made the announcement in a statement issued in Abuja. He clarified that this decision allows institutions to admit candidates who might have been excluded solely due to age, as long as they meet the qualifications set by the respective institutions.

Benjamin emphasized that this change does not affect any institution’s existing policies regarding a minimum age of 16, which remains in place. He urged institutions to compile and submit lists of eligible candidates who will be 16 between January 1 and August 31, 2025, within a week, to facilitate a final decision.
