Neymar has been officially called up to the Brazil national football team for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Colombia and Argentina, marking his return after an extended 17-month absence.

Now playing for his childhood club, Santos, Neymar last represented the Selecao in October 2023 when he sustained a knee injury in a match against Uruguay. Since rejoining Santos in January, Neymar has rediscovered his form, making an immediate impact in the Brazilian Serie A with three goals and three assists in seven appearances, showcasing his skill and influence on the pitch. His strong performances have drawn significant attention following a quieter period at Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League.

At 33, Neymar is one of the most accomplished players in Brazilian football history. With 128 caps, he ranks second for most appearances for Brazil, behind only the legendary Cafu, who holds 142 caps. Neymar is also Brazil’s all-time top scorer, with 79 goals, surpassing the great Pelé by two goals.

Brazil currently sits in fifth place in the Conmebol World Cup qualifying standings with 18 points from 12 matches. The national team will face Colombia on March 21, followed by a crucial match against group leaders Argentina five days later.

To prepare for these vital games, head coach Dorival Junior has named a squad featuring a strong Premier League contingent, including goalkeepers Alisson (Liverpool) and Ederson (Manchester City). The defense includes Gabriel (Arsenal) and Murillo (Nottingham Forest), while Andre (Wolves) and Matheus Cunha provide attacking options. The squad also features Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães and Joelinton, along with João Pedro from Brighton and Manchester City’s Savinho, offering depth and variety for the upcoming qualifiers.
