In a statement to Naija News, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, noted that IGP Egbetokun extended heartfelt sympathies to the government and the people of Niger State following the devastating tanker explosion that occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Dikko Junction, Abuja-Kaduna Expressway, Niger State.

The tragic incident happened when a truck carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) lost control and caught fire, resulting in the deaths of over 73 individuals, numerous injuries, and significant damage to shops and property.

The statement highlighted that the IGP emphasized the importance of strict adherence to safety protocols on the roads and firmly warned against negligence and disregard for regulations that can lead to such catastrophic events.

He directed all State Commissioners of Police to enhance their Motor Traffic Divisions (MTDs) in collaboration with other traffic management agencies to ensure strict compliance and enforcement of established protocols and traffic regulations on highways.

IGP Egbetokun also urged vehicle owners and drivers to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy and follow traffic rules to prevent similar tragedies.

In his call for action, the IGP prayed for the souls of the deceased and urged stakeholders, including transport operators and the general public, to prioritize safety and responsibility in their operations and actions to avoid future tragedies.
