In a goodwill message to Nigerians, he encouraged them to remain resolute and not lose hope, emphasizing the importance of working together to pave a more progressive path for a brighter future. He highlighted that the anniversary provides an opportunity for both citizens and leaders to reflect on Nigeria’s journey as a nation since gaining independence.
Jonathan expressed, “It has been 63 years since Nigeria gained independence from Britain. This occasion allows us to reflect on Nigeria’s remarkable journey as a nation, acknowledge the accomplishments we have made, reassess the challenges we have overcome, chart a course to address current difficulties, and renew our optimism for a better tomorrow.”
He acknowledged that Nigeria has experienced both progress and setbacks, but emphasized that patriotic Nigerians who believe in their country have consistently stood firm, sharing in the moments of success and feeling the disappointments of missed opportunities.
Furthermore, he acknowledged that some Nigerians, particularly the youth, may have feelings of disappointment regarding the nation’s unfulfilled aspirations over the years, and he understood that such sentiments were not entirely unfounded.
