Nigeria Customs Foils Rice and Petrol Smuggling Attempts, Seizes Military Hardware

Additionally, they stopped 19,000 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) that was on the verge of being smuggled out of the country.

The total value of the seized goods was estimated at N462.7 million, with N66.49 million recovered as revenue for the federation account through the issuance of Demand Notices (DN) for underpaid customs duties….CONTINUE READING

 

During a press conference in Lagos, the ag Customs Area Controller, FOU, Zone A, deputy Comptroller Hussein Ejibunu, disclosed that 13 suspects were arrested in connection with some of the seizures and are under investigation and prosecution.

Furthermore, the unit also intercepted military hardware, including bulletproof jackets, jack knives, and pistol pouches, which were illegally brought into the country without the necessary end-user certificates.

The successful operations were attributed to the dedication of the customs officers, with the morale boosted by the visit of the acting Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, to the unit.

Apart from the interceptions, the customs service also recovered N66.49 million from Demand Notices raised for importers who under-declared cargoes.
