In a statement on Sunday, Obi lamented that while the country grapples with pressing challenges, its leaders are preoccupied with trivial matters, neglecting urgent national issues.

Reacting to recent developments, including the sexual harassment allegations between Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the Lagos State House of Assembly speakership crisis, and the Supreme Court ruling on the Rivers State political turmoil, Obi expressed disappointment over the actions of the three arms of government, describing them as disheartening and uninspiring.

He urged the Executive, Legislature, and Judiciary to refrain from undue interference in state affairs and instead focus on resolving the country’s deep-seated problems.

Obi further accused Nigerian leaders of engaging in political theatrics at the expense of meaningful governance, warning that their actions ridicule the essence of leadership.

He emphasized that Nigerians deserve better and called for immediate corrective measures to address governance failures.

Expressing his concerns, Obi stated:

“It is deeply disturbing that Nigeria’s political leadership is rapidly turning into a national embarrassment.

“Our country is facing extreme poverty, high infant mortality rates, millions of out-of-school children, worsening insecurity, and alarming levels of hunger.

“One would expect our leaders to be fully committed to finding urgent and transformative solutions, but instead, the national discourse is dominated by distractions—ranging from sexual harassment allegations and budget padding scandals in the National Assembly to state legislative crises and controversial court rulings capable of destabilizing governance.

“The Executive’s display of negative power in Osun State, the Judiciary’s reckless ruling on Rivers State, and the disgraceful scandals in the National Assembly paint a bleak picture of our democratic journey.”
