In response to the situation, the United States Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, assured Bazoum of unwavering support, while United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, offered the organization’s full support to the uranium-rich country. Bazoum is a crucial ally in the fight against Islamist militancy in West Africa.

With neighboring countries Mali and Burkina Faso also experiencing coups due to jihadist uprisings, Aisha Yesufu voiced her concerns on Twitter, reminding people of Nigeria’s tumultuous past during the military era.
