He remarked: One of the defining characteristics of thriving nations around the world is the positive discourse their citizens engage in about their homeland. This is incredibly significant, both spiritually and naturally. Spiritually speaking, speaking positively brings blessings, while negative speech invites curses. On a practical level, when citizens speak optimistically about their country, their collective narratives echo worldwide, increasing the likelihood of foreign investment and sparking national growth. People from countries such as America, Britain, Canada, and Europe may critique their leaders, but they rarely deride their countries. This sense of national pride permeates all aspects of their lives.
Drawing a parallel with sports, Omokri highlighted that cheering for your team boosts their chances of success. He asserted, “You don’t wait for your country to be perfect before you laud it. Rather, you praise your nation, and it will rise to meet your expectations.” CONTINUE READING
He urged his fellow Nigerians to adopt this mindset of positivity about Nigeria, ensuring both tangible and intangible benefits for the nation. As proof, he drew attention to the southwestern region of Nigeria, where the residents are most likely to speak positively about their area and people. Incidentally, this region, according to the National Bureau of Statistics and the World Bank, is the most peaceful and prosperous part of Nigeria.
Omokri quoted from Proverbs 14:34, “Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin is a reproach to any people.” He emphasized that speaking righteously is one of the most fundamental forms of righteousness.
Adding a reference from the Hadith of Faith, Omokri highlighted the importance of good speech, suggesting that consistently derogatory speech about Nigeria taints the environment, making it challenging for prosperity to thrive.
He warned against the power of negative words, pointing out that they can impact a person more than the leaders, who can often escape the country and the consequences of such negativity. Omokri urged Nigerians to switch from phrases like ‘useless country’ or ‘yeye country’ to blessings and positive affirmations.
Omokri concluded, “Even if you don’t like Nigeria’s leaders, you can attack them. But don’t wait for Nigeria to be good before you speak well of her. Speak well of Nigeria, and she will be good.”
