The pilot of the Nigerian Air Force MI-171 jet that tragically crashed in Niger State, Flight Lieutenant Ibrahim Adamu Abubakar, has been laid to rest in Zaria, Kaduna State. Earlier, the family of the deceased had performed a proxy funeral prayer (Salatul Gha’ib) for Abubakar at the Gaskiya Corporation mosque in Tudun Jukun, Zaria. This was done when it seemed unlikely that they would be able to receive his body.

Abubakar’s elder brother, Abubakar Adamu, explained that due to the uncertainty surrounding the availability of the body, the family conducted the Salatul Gha’ib as per Islamic tradition. He clarified that now that the body has been located, it’s also obligatory to hold another funeral prayer for him.

Despite the sorrow over the loss, the family has found solace in the belief that Abubakar died heroically while serving his country and people.

The late pilot’s mother, Hajiya A’ishatu Adams, described him as a devout individual who had memorized the Holy Qur’an. She fondly remembered his gentle, generous, and calm nature, emphasizing how he consistently sought blessings from his parents and maintained his connection with them even while at work.
