In a statement issued by Alkasim Abdulkadir, Special Assistant on Media and Communications Strategy to Minister Tuggar, the call for ceasefire was made during a meeting held on the sidelines of the African Union Executive Council in Accra.
The conflict, sparked by power struggles between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces since April 2023, continues to escalate.
Tuggar and Lamola emphasized the urgent need for humanitarian assistance to reach affected areas promptly. They appealed to the international community to take immediate and concrete steps to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the Sudanese conflict through inclusive dialogue.
The ministers reaffirmed the strong historical bilateral relations between Nigeria and South Africa and pledged to enhance cooperation across various sectors. They also discussed regional and continental issues, focusing on peace and security in Africa.
Efforts are underway to finalize preparations for the upcoming session of the Bi-National Commission scheduled to convene in South Africa, aimed at further strengthening collaboration between the two nations.
