The Nigerian Army has reiterated its commitment to restoring security and normalcy to Imo State, assuring residents that their safety will be guaranteed.
Brigadier-General Usman Lawal, the Commander of the 34 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army located near Owerri in Obinze, made this pledge during the inauguration of a Joint Night Patrol Task Force in Owerri on Sunday.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by commanders and heads of various security agencies in Imo.

He emphasized that the Joint Night Patrol Teams would leverage the skills, dedication, and unwavering commitment of soldiers, naval personnel, airmen, police officers, and members of other security agencies to enhance the safety and security of the state’s residents and their property.
However, he cautioned that the personnel participating in the joint night patrols must conduct themselves professionally and earn the trust of the public. Any form of misconduct or indiscipline among the patrol teams would not be tolerated.
Lawal underscored the significance of securing the capital city, especially in light of the recent surge in armed robberies, kidnappings, and related crimes, particularly at night.
He noted that this step was essential, especially during the ongoing political campaigns leading up to the November 11th gubernatorial election.
Governor Hope Uzodimma, represented by Dr. Ugorji Okechukwu Ugorji, the Commissioner for Homeland Security and Vigilante Affairs, commended the security agencies for establishing the Joint Night Patrol Task Force. He recognized their professionalism as a driving force behind the prevailing peace in the state.
The governor reiterated the state government’s commitment to supporting the security agencies in their efforts to ensure the safety of Owerri Metropolis and the entire state.
He encouraged the people of Imo to cooperate with and provide timely information to the security agencies, enabling them to apprehend criminals and maintain the safety of lives and property.
