Nigerian Footballer Paul Julius Killed In Cyprus Car Accident

Paul Julius Goewam, a 20-year-old Nigerian footballer, has tragically died in a car crash in Cyprus. According to police, the accident occurred around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, on the Paralimni-Protaras road near Pernera. Julius’s car collided with another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction.

Julius, a talented striker from Plateau State, had recently joined Cypriot club Enosis Neon Paralimni just three weeks prior, transferring from Egyptian club El Gaish.

Enosis Neon Paralimni FC issued a heartfelt statement mourning the loss of their player. The statement described Julius as a determined individual who faced significant challenges yet showed remarkable resilience.

“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our player, Paul Julius,” the statement said. “His unexpected death has deeply shocked us. Despite the struggles he endured to join our team, he remained focused on achieving his goals. His memory will always be cherished, and we extend our condolences to his family and loved ones. May he rest in peace.”

The driver of the other vehicle, a 74-year-old, is receiving treatment in the hospital but is not in critical condition. The Famagusta Traffic Department is investigating the incident and is calling for witnesses to come forward.
