Confirming the unfortunate incident, SP Bright Edafe, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, acknowledged the incident but declined to provide further details on the sad development.

Meanwhile, reports emerged of a separate incident involving the alleged abduction of Sobomabo Jackrich, a former militant leader and the Rivers State governorship candidate for the National Rescue Movement (NRM) in the 2023 election. Military personnel reportedly apprehended Jackrich at his residence in Usokun, Degema Local Government Area of the state. Tragically, two of his supporters lost their lives during the early morning raid, and their bodies were reportedly taken away alongside Jackrich.

Jackrich’s media aide, Soibibo Sokari, confirmed the kidnapping of his principal and the unfortunate deaths of the two supporters, expressing uncertainty about the perpetrators behind the incident. However, a source speaking anonymously to The Punch suggested military involvement in the operation, noting the cordoning off of Jackrich’s residence.

Responding to inquiries, Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, clarified that Jackrich’s situation was not a case of kidnapping but rather that he was in the custody of security personnel.

Popularly known as ‘Egberipapa’, Jackrich was a former militant leader who embraced amnesty during the tenure of late President Umar Yar’Adua.
