The Federal Government has firmly declared its stance against paying any ransom for the release of over 280 abducted pupils and teachers from Government Secondary School and LEA Primary School in Kuriga, Kaduna State. Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, reiterated this position, emphasizing President’s zero tolerance for ransom payment to criminal elements. He stated that the government is actively working with security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals, rejecting any negotiation involving ransom.
This statement from the Federal Government comes in response to the recent abduction incident in Kaduna State, where armed terrorists raided Kuriga, Chikun Local Government Area, kidnapping students and educators from both schools. Despite offers of assistance from the United States and other countries, the government remains steadfast in its refusal to entertain ransom demands. The Minister highlighted the government’s proactive measures to address such criminal activities and emphasized the priority of safely rescuing the abducted individuals without succumbing to ransom demands.
The government’s position was reinforced by President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, who disclosed ongoing support from the United States in the rescue efforts. The President has directed security agencies to intensify efforts for the safe return of the abducted victims, echoing the government’s firm stance against negotiating or paying any ransom.
President Tinubu had earlier condemned the abductions in Borno and Kaduna states, instructing security agencies to prioritize rescue operations. Despite the challenges posed by such incidents, the government remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of its citizens, refraining from any actions that could incentivize further criminal activities.
In conclusion, the Federal Government’s unwavering stance against ransom payment underscores its commitment to combating insecurity and safeguarding the lives of its citizens. Despite external offers of assistance, the government prioritizes strategic measures to address the root causes of such criminal activities and ensure the safe return of the abducted individuals through concerted security efforts.
