Nigerian Lady Goes Viral After ₦10 Shortage Leaves Her Hungry For Hours
A Nigerian woman identified as @TDeisine has shared a heartbreaking account of how the absence of just ₦10 worth of matches left her unable to prepare food for several hours.
The woman’s account, shared on X, has gone viral and sparked reactions from social media users who related to her experience.
According to Bush Radio Academy, the woman explained that she was the only Catholic in her neighbourhood and had returned home from church while her neighbours were still attending their own church service.
She said she had run out of garri and decided to prepare oil rice instead. However, upon attempting to cook, she discovered that she had no matches left to ignite her stove.
The X user explained that although she could have bought matches from another shop on her way home, she was unfamiliar with the shop owners. Meanwhile, the shops closest to her home were closed because their owners had also gone to church.
As a result, she was unable to prepare a meal and had to wait until about 1 p.m., when her neighbours returned from church, before she could borrow matches and light her stove.
Her experience has since attracted widespread reactions on social media, with several users sharing their own perspectives on the unexpected challenges that can arise from seemingly insignificant shortages.
Some commenters used humour to react to the situation, while others highlighted the importance of being prepared for basic household emergencies.
The incident has also generated conversations about the everyday struggles people can face when they lack access to even inexpensive necessities at the moment they need them.
