Nigerian Leader Shettima Calls For Halt On Protest, Cites Risk Of Anarchy

Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to postpone the proposed protest, warning that it could lead to anarchy. During a high-level meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he unveiled a partnership with the Nutrition Society of Nigeria (NSN) to tackle Nigeria’s nutritional challenges, Shettima stressed the importance of focusing on constructive actions rather than protests.

Acknowledging the difficulties faced by Nigerians, Shettima emphasized the need for solutions rather than demonstrations. He stated, “This is the time for us to solve our problems, not to protest. While the right to protest is protected in democracies, starting an agitation without knowing its potential consequences can lead to anarchy.”

He expressed empathy for the struggles of Nigerians and highlighted the long-standing issue of the oil subsidy. Shettima is optimistic that improvements will come as agricultural yields increase, which should benefit ordinary citizens.

He concluded by calling for advocacy of diplomacy, engagement, and patience, assuring that President Buhari is deeply committed to addressing the nation’s challenges. Shettima likened the process to childbirth: painful but ultimately rewarding.
