The statement highlighted Atiku’s condemnation of what he described as the Police’s blatant breach of citizens’ rights and defiance of a court order. According to the statement, Justice M. A. Madugu of the Bwari Judicial Division had issued an order on June 13, 2024, restraining the IGP, AIG Zone 15, CP FCT, and their agents from taking actions against Yusuf Sheriff Banki and his family pending the court’s decision on the matter.

Atiku, emphasizing Nigeria’s commitment to law and order, urged the Police to release Banki unconditionally. He criticized the Police for what he termed a Gestapo-style arrest, which he said disregarded a valid court injunction. Atiku condemned the Police’s actions as reflective of impunity and a lack of respect for the rule of law and citizens’ rights, likening the incident to the oppressive military dictatorship era where legal processes were often ignored.

Atiku concluded by reaffirming that Nigeria is a nation governed by law and order and called for the immediate release of Yusuf Sheriff Banki without any conditions.
