Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program, Lawal suggested that political motivations underpin the security challenges in the state. He lamented that security agents are often absent or restricted by specific instructions when needed.
Lawal asserted that with the right political will, the rampant banditry and kidnapping in the state could be eradicated within two weeks. He noted, “We know who the bandits are and where they live. It’s just that there is no political will.”
He also accused some political adversaries of negotiating with bandits without his consent, stating, “At a point, I had to make it clear because while we are trying to address the situation, someone else is negotiating with the bandits behind my back.”
