Nigerian Trafficker Commits Suicide In Italian Prison After Attacking Guards

John Ogais, a notorious Nigerian human trafficker known as “Rambo,” accused of torturing and killing migrants, has died by suicide in an Italian prison.

Local media reported that Ogais took his own life on Monday, September 16, 2024, after assaulting and injuring four prison wardens.

Ogais was arrested in 2017 for his involvement in a human trafficking ring that smuggled migrants from Libya to Italy. He and his accomplices were accused of torturing, raping, and murdering migrants. He was captured at the Cara ‘Santa’Anna’ shelter in Isola Capo Rizzuto, Calabria, after being identified by migrants who had reached Italy’s Lampedusa island.

Several survivors recounted horrific experiences, including one where Ogais, who called himself “Rambo,” allegedly beat two Nigerian migrants to death. One of the victims, a minor, was murdered in front of his brother, who was forced to watch while Ogais threatened him with a pistol.
