Speaking during a sermon at the opening Mass of the 2025 First Plenary of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) in Abuja on Sunday, Kaigama emphasized the need for truth, justice, and love as the foundation for a better Nigeria.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the conference, themed “Jubilee of Hope: A Light for a New Nigeria,” provided a platform for reflection on the country’s challenges.
Kaigama urged Nigerians to reject greed, division, and selfishness, stressing that a renewed nation requires unity and faith over fear.
“If we truly desire a new Nigeria, we must embrace truth, justice, and love. Unity must replace division, selflessness must overcome greed, and faith must triumph over fear,” he said.
He described the country as being trapped in a “wilderness” of economic hardship, insecurity, and corruption, leaving many in despair.
“Like the Israelites who were led out of slavery into a land of abundance, Nigeria too can rise above its struggles and move towards justice, peace, and prosperity. However, this requires turning back to God and seeking renewal through faith, justice, and love,” he stated.
The Archbishop further called on Christians to prioritize compassion and helping the less privileged, emphasizing that faith should be reflected in actions rather than mere religious symbolism.
“Building grand places of worship while ignoring the suffering of the people is not true religiosity. Real worship is demonstrated through justice, honesty, and love,” he added.
