This declaration follows the recent successful rescue missions in Bayelsa and Adamawa States. In a statement released on Monday, March 10, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasized the police’s unwavering dedication to protecting citizens.
On March 7, 2025, at approximately 3:03 PM, a distress call reported the abduction of Mr. Loveday Akari, Special Assistant to the Managing Director of the NDDC, in Ayakoro Community, Ogbia LGA, Bayelsa State. Swift police action, supported by other security agencies, led to the successful rescue of Akari and another victim without any ransom paid.
In a separate operation, following the February 21, 2025, abduction of two Catholic priests in Adamawa State, security forces launched targeted raids on suspected criminal hideouts. These efforts led to the arrest of Tahamado Jonathan Demian, a 34-year-old suspected to be linked to the victims’ church, in connection with the kidnapping of Reverend Fathers Abraham Samman and Matthew David Dusami from the Catholic Dioceses of Yola and Jalingo.
Both priests were safely rescued on March 8, 2025, with no ransom paid. Authorities recovered a locally made assault rifle, ammunition, a mobile phone, and SIM cards while intensifying efforts to track down other members of the gang.
These successful missions underscore the effectiveness of intelligence-led policing and the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to eradicating crime. Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun commended the officers for their bravery and professionalism, reaffirming the Force’s resolve to dismantle criminal networks, rescue abducted individuals, and bring perpetrators to justice.
