A leaked memo titled ‘Mandate For Payment’ from Edu to the Accountant General of the Federation seeking a transfer of N585,189,500 for the “Renewed Hope Grant for Vulnerable Groups” has surfaced. Strikingly, the payment beneficiary’s account is identified as a private account belonging to Onlyelu Bridget Mojso, housed in UBA.

The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation has raised objections, asserting that such payments are typically made to the vulnerable beneficiaries and not to individual private accounts. It emphasized the need for due process and highlighted that ministries should adhere to self-accounting principles.

Betta Edu dismisses the scandal as baseless, attributing it to mischief-makers aiming to undermine her ministry’s anti-corruption efforts.

This revelation follows recent EFCC scrutiny of Hajia Shehu, the National Co-ordinator of the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), accused of transferring N44 billion from NSIPA’s accounts to private and corporate accounts. Furthermore, documents expose the APC’s transfer of N226,188,500 million to Kogi, Bayelsa, and Imo states through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs before the November 11, 2023, governorship elections. The funds were purportedly allocated for flight tickets and airport taxis for Betta Edu’s teams traveling from Abuja to Kogi, a state lacking its own airport.

The disbursements, seemingly for palliatives, sparked controversy as Kogi State lacks an airport, and the funds were directed to private accounts. Bushradiogist previously uncovered Betta Edu’s request for public funds to be sent to a private account, heightening concerns over financial transparency.

Famous Twitterati, Sarki reacting tweeted: If Betta Edu still has a job by tomorrow morning, then we will know that Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not ready to lead this country. You cannot be swift in suspending Halima Shehu while Edu Betta, who has suspicious academic records and serious allegations against her, still has a job. Suspend her now and allow @officialEFCC to invite her for interrogation.”
