MultiChoice is reportedly preparing to increase subscription rates for its DStv and GOtv packages, with the popular Compact bouquet set to rise from ₦15,700 to ₦19,000, according to industry sources.
This adjustment comes nearly a year after the last price review and is driven by the persistent depreciation of the naira, soaring inflation, and escalating energy costs.
Subscribers to DStv Compact, Access, and Family bouquets—key segments of MultiChoice’s customer base—will be affected by the new pricing:
- DStv Compact: ₦15,700 → ₦19,000
- DStv Family: ₦9,300 → ₦11,000
- DStv Access: ₦5,100 → ₦6,000
- DStv Premium & Compact+: Expected price hikes (exact figures yet to be confirmed).
GOtv subscribers will also experience adjustments:
- GOtv Value: ₦3,600 → ₦3,900
- GOtv Plus: ₦4,850 → ₦5,800
Economic Challenges Behind the Increase
An industry source told TheCable that the price hikes stem from economic reforms by the Federal Government, including the removal of fuel subsidies, naira floatation, and rising electricity tariffs.
“Since 2023, when these reforms began, the cost of goods and services has surged dramatically. Inflation hit 34.80% in December 2024, and many businesses have had to adjust prices multiple times to stay afloat,” the insider revealed.
Companies across Nigeria, particularly in telecommunications, transportation, and consumer goods, have struggled with foreign exchange volatility, leading to significant financial strain.
