Speaking at a press conference focused on the challenges and progress within the state’s healthcare system, Dr. Ali highlighted this issue as part of the activities marking this year’s Physician Week, themed “Ensuring Universal Applicability in Remuneration: A Panacea to Talent Retention in the Healthcare System.” He emphasized the critical role of fair compensation and recognition for doctors’ contributions.

“Fair remuneration goes beyond a simple salary figure; it signifies an acknowledgment of our value, serves as motivation for excellence, and acts as a buffer against burnout—especially in healthcare,” Dr. Ali stated. He went on to underscore that adequate compensation reflects the time, emotional energy, and personal commitment that healthcare professionals dedicate to their work. “When healthcare workers are treated with fairness and respect, it not only enhances their dedication and commitment to patient care but also strengthens the broader health ecosystem,” he added.

Dr. Ali also appealed to the Kano State government to honor its commitments with the NMA, specifically regarding the implementation of a revised hazard allowance for healthcare workers. “I urge the Kano State government to fulfill its agreement with the NMA on implementing the revised allowances. This would help bridge the gap between doctors working under the state government and those at the federal level, reducing the troubling trend of brain drain,” he stated
