In a post shared on X, Obi voiced his dismay over a recent incident in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja, where over 40 individuals were reportedly trapped beneath a collapsed building. The tragic event occurred on Saturday and has sparked widespread calls for accountability and reform.

Obi emphasized the need for a thorough investigation into the causes of the collapse, urging the government to prioritize the full rescue of all affected victims. A former governor of Anambra State, Obi also called for stronger enforcement of building codes and regulations, alongside the arrest and prosecution of any builders, engineers, or supervisors whose negligence contributes to such preventable tragedies.

“The frequency of building collapses in Nigeria is deeply disturbing and demands immediate national focus,” Obi wrote. “The recent Sabon Lugbe collapse, leaving about 40 individuals trapped, is yet another tragic reminder of this urgent issue.”

Acknowledging the efforts of residents and emergency workers already involved in rescue efforts, he urged the government to amplify these efforts to ensure that all victims are safely reunited with their families. He further stressed the importance of a comprehensive review of building standards, advocating for robust enforcement to prevent future incidents.
