President Tinubu stressed that his administration will ensure mineral exploration companies prioritize the health and safety of Nigerians and local communities. He encouraged the participants to utilize their 11-month study findings to improve national security and development.
Commending the presentation by Colonel Olajide Bello, Tinubu acknowledged the critical role of economic diversification and the need to address issues related to scavengers and exploiters in the country. He expressed confidence that military officers’ insights would help stabilize the economic environment.
The President also assured the delegation that his administration would focus on completing the NDC headquarters in Abuja. During a discussion on the health impacts of mining, Tinubu emphasized the need for medical facilities to protect those living near mining sites.
Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, Commandant of the NDC, highlighted the institution’s progress since its founding in 1992 and its expansion to include participants from around the world. He appealed for continued support to finalize the college’s permanent site, which has faced delays since 2010.
The NDC’s Course 32 comprises 111 participants from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as 19 international participants. The college’s research centre has been designated as the ECOWAS Training Centre of Excellence for Peace Support Operations at the strategic level.
