Amadi, a lawyer and former Imo State governorship candidate under the Labour Party, accused INEC of failing to adhere to its own regulations, particularly its commitment to electronically transmit election results from polling units. He also condemned the judiciary for not nullifying elections that did not follow the established rules.
Speaking at the 1st Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) Roundtable on the ‘Role of Judiciary in Democracy Sustainability‘ in Abuja, Amadi highlighted that while electoral strategies in other countries focus on legitimate tactics, Nigeria’s approach is marred by bribery involving INEC, the judiciary, and security agencies.
He criticized the Supreme Court and INEC for disregarding clear regulations, arguing that the Electoral Act, despite its imperfections, provided a framework that was ignored. Amadi expressed disappointment that the court allowed INEC to deviate from the law, holding both INEC and the judiciary responsible for the failings of the 2023 elections.
Amadi emphasized that elections conducted outside the established rules should be invalidated, lamenting the undue burden placed on the judiciary by INEC’s failures.
