Nigeria’s Youth Minister Calls For Collaborative Efforts In Empowering African YouthNigeria’s Minister of Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, has urged his counterparts across Africa to place greater emphasis on youth development in their countries. Olawande made this call during his speech at the YouthConnekt Africa Summit held in Rwanda over the weekend. He stressed the importance of adopting a comprehensive and practical youth development agenda across the continent. Represented by Nigeria’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Olusanya Olubunmi, Olawande used the occasion to showcase several key programs launched by President Tinubu’s administration aimed at empowering Nigerian youth.

Speaking at a ministerial roundtable on improving access to finance for rural youth entrepreneurs, Olawande reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to youth employment, entrepreneurship, and leadership development. He also emphasized Nigeria’s dedication to the overall growth of youth not only in the country but across Africa.

The Minister encouraged youth leaders in Africa to adopt Nigeria’s “One Youth, Two Skills” approach, which aims to build a generation of skilled young people capable of driving growth and innovation. Olawande explained that by equipping youth with multiple skills, Africa would increase its productivity and better prepare young people to compete globally.

Additionally, Olawande reiterated Nigeria’s commitment to the YouthConnekt initiative, noting that since joining as the 32nd member state in 2022, the country has made strides toward establishing a YouthConnekt Hub to promote sustainable youth development and strengthen collaboration across the continent.
