The 2025 theme is ‘The Role of Early Warnings towards a Climate Resilient Aviation Industry for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development.’
NiMet annually predicts and publishes expected climatic patterns, such as rainfall and temperature, in Nigeria during the first quarter. This aligns with its mandate to advise the government and the public on weather, climate, and water-related issues.
According to NiMet’s Director General and CEO, Professor Charles Anosike, “The Seasonal Climate Prediction provides essential weather and climate information that may impact socio-economic activities across various sectors, including agriculture, aviation, disaster risk management, health, Oil & Gas, telecommunications, tourism, transportation (land and water), power (hydro and renewable), and water resources management.”
“The socio-economic implications of the anticipated rainfall and temperature patterns for various sectors are also outlined in the report,” Anosike added.
The SCP document will detail the onset and cessation of the 2025 rainy season, the length of the cropping season, total rainfall expected in all 774 local government areas, temperature trends from January to May, and forecasts for malaria and meningitis vigilance.
The presentation of the Seasonal Climate Prediction document will attract key stakeholders from both public and private sectors, development partners, NGOs, the diplomatic community, farmers’ associations, and more.
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, will lead the presentation, alongside summaries for policymakers and translations in three major Nigerian languages, along with the State of the Climate in Nigeria.
