Ningi’s Suspension Lifted By Senate After Three Months
Today, on May 28, the Senate reinstated Senator Abdul Ningi following a three-month suspension.
Ningi was suspended on March 12 after alleging in a BBC Hausa Service interview that the National Assembly passed two 2024 Appropriation Bills and claimed the 2024 budget was padded by N3.7 trillion. The Senate refuted these claims, stating the amount was designated for statutory transfers to federal government institutions. However, during today’s plenary session, Ningi’s suspension was lifted after the consideration and adoption of a motion titled “Motion for the unconditional recall of Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi,” sponsored by Minority Leader Abba Moro (PDP – Benue South). Moro took full responsibility for Ningi’s actions on behalf of the minority leadership and issued an apology to the Senate.
