Speaking in Abuja after a thanksgiving service celebrating the recent legal victory, Njoku praised the Supreme Court for its landmark decision, asserting that it has restored power to the grassroots level.

He emphasized that the court’s directive for LGAs to receive direct funding from the federation account will foster development at the local level and enhance governance through improved checks and balances.

Njoku remarked, “What the Supreme Court has done is return power to the people. If the Federal Government were to withhold funds from states, there would be dissatisfaction. Yet states have long held onto funds that rightfully belong to LGAs.”

He criticized the trend of officials prioritizing state or federal interests over local governance, urging more focus on grassroots engagement to ensure the delivery of democracy’s benefits.

While acknowledging that many elite figures may be unhappy with the ruling, he expressed APGA’s enthusiasm about the judgment. He noted the timing of the Supreme Court’s decision coinciding with the resolution of APGA’s internal disputes as a significant moment for the party.

Njoku declared, “The greatest beneficiary of this ruling is APGA, as we are fundamentally a grassroots movement. APGA is not a party for elite figures but a platform for the masses to pursue their democratic dividends.”

He reaffirmed APGA’s commitment to being a true mass movement and indicated that the party will capitalize on the opportunities created by the Supreme Court’s decision. Njoku dismissed the criticisms from prominent figures, stating that their resistance stems from a loss of power.

He concluded, “We aim to ensure that governance is done properly, and with power shifting to the grassroots, those in positions must adapt to this new reality.”
