The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has issued a response to President Bola Tinubu, asserting that their focus is not on challenging his political position but on improving the living conditions of Nigerian workers.
President Tinubu criticized the NLC’s nationwide protest on Tuesday, citing political motives and suggesting that they meet him in 2027 if they wish to engage in politics. However, the NLC, through its President, Joe Ajaero, expressed deep concern over Tinubu’s remarks, emphasizing the disconnect between his statements and the struggles faced by ordinary Nigerians.
Ajaero highlighted the urgent issues of hunger, unemployment, housing insecurity, and rising costs of basic necessities, urging President Tinubu to shift his focus from political calculations to addressing these pressing concerns. The NLC emphasized that their primary goal is not to pursue political positions but to advocate for effective governance prioritizing the welfare and security of all Nigerians.
The statement underscored the need to redirect collective energy towards substantive issues such as wage increases, social welfare programs, infrastructure development, and the revitalization of key sectors like education and healthcare. The NLC called for a refocus on addressing the real challenges faced by Nigerians, urging President Tinubu to fulfill the fundamental duty of public office rather than engaging in political rhetoric.
