NLC Speaks Out: The Truth About Nigeria’s Tax Reform Bills Revealed

In its New Year message on Monday, the NLC also urged all levels of government to prioritize the welfare of citizens in 2025.
The proposed Tax Reform Bills have sparked significant backlash, particularly in northern regions, where they are criticized for hindering economic growth.
NLC President Joe Ajaero stressed the necessity of inclusive dialogue in shaping tax policies.
In the message titled “In 2025, hope is in our collective resolve,” Ajaero stated:
“As we enter 2025, the Nigeria Labour Congress extends warm greetings to every worker and citizen across our nation.
“The challenges we have faced should not deter us but inspire us to build the collective resolve needed to free Nigeria from the grip of underdevelopment.
“Our liberation from economic hardship and stagnation will not come from external powers but through our collective effort and determination.
“It is our civic duty to find this resolve and work together across the nation to propel us forward.
“We urge all levels of government to ensure governance translates into tangible benefits for the people. Citizens’ welfare is the cornerstone of any government’s legitimacy.”
The NLC also highlighted key priorities for governance, including access to food, better healthcare, quality housing, education, transportation, security, and inclusive participation in decision-making processes.
