The gesture follows Obasanjo’s recent interview with Channels Television, where he cited advice from Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) suggesting the refinery might not operate efficiently. SPDC, approached for equity participation in the refinery, reportedly expressed concerns about corruption impacting its performance.

In a statement, NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to transparency and accountability. He invited Obasanjo to observe the refinery’s progress since undergoing rehabilitation, emphasizing the extensive transformation efforts undertaken.

Soneye explained that the refinery’s rehabilitation was more than routine maintenance; it involved a comprehensive overhaul to align with international standards. Similar projects are also underway at the Warri, old Port Harcourt, and Kaduna refineries.

He highlighted NNPCL’s evolution from a government corporation to a private entity focused on profitability and competitiveness as a global energy company. Soneye assured that the organization remains committed to maintaining world-class refinery standards and securing Nigeria’s energy future through sustainable operations.

Responding to Obasanjo’s remarks, Soneye expressed respect for the former president’s insights and contributions to national dialogue. He assured Nigerians of NNPCL’s dedication to transformative initiatives aimed at creating a brighter future.

Addressing rumors of plans to halt crude oil supply to the Dangote Refinery, Soneye dismissed the reports as baseless, emphasizing there was no need to engage with false claims.
